Million Kilometre Test
Challenge The ExxonMobil formulators in Paulsboro, New Jersey ran a Mercedes-Benz E350 for 1 million kilometres using Mobil 1™ advanced fully synthetic engine oil. The team wanted to see what the car's engine would look like after running for an extremely long time.
Results The car was mounted on a highway simulator and exposed to weather elements and seasonal temperature changes. After 200,000km, the engine was taken apart and ExxonMobil's engineers were very pleased with what they saw. There was so little wear on the engine components that they were still within the expected manufacturing tolerances for new parts. Pleased with how Mobil 1 performed so far, the engine was put together again and put to a longer test.
After running for a total of one million kilometres, Mobil 1 advanced fully synthetic engine oil continued to do its job well, keeping the engine protected from wear and leaving very little deposit.
